The Error Rose Analysis illustrates the dynamics of organizational behaviour.

In this example, we see an aerial view of the potential routes taken over five stages by three teams (red, purple and blue) as they attempt to head North.

Error in direction creeps in from two main sources:

  1. Understanding
  2. Navigation

Error in distance also creeps in from two main sources:

  1. Ability
  2. Motivation

When the roses are fully opened (i.e. at maximum error or regret):

  • The blue team makes good progress.
  • The purple team illustrates why people say, "Things went South."
  • The red team illustrates why people say, "We feel like we're going round in circles."
